“The Boss” — Kristine W (TruTone) Once again, pop phenomenon Kristine W is proving why she remains the boss of the dance floor. Her latest release, “The Boss,” a remake of Diana Ross’ 1979 classic, is expected to be the dance star’s 11th “Billboard” number one, and with good reason. “The Boss” is as hot now as it was 30 years ago when it was penned by the legendary writing team of Nicholas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. (The duo also wrote Ross’ “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”)
Kristine’s version of the classic track features remixes by Johnny Vicious, Tracy Young, Jamie Sanchez, Paul Goodyear and U.K. favorites Love To Infinity. The remake is highlighted by a more powerful, in-your-face “You did me wrong and now you’re gonna get it” flavor. Just what the gay boys want to hear from Miss W.
“Faggoty Attenton” — Adam Joseph (Jah Records) East Village kid Adam Joseph is a regular on the critically acclaimed and highly-rated iTunes podcast show, “Gay Pimpin’ With Jonny McGovern.” As fans of the program know, the kids of the East Village are unabashedly and unapologetically dirty, discussing everything from locker room masturbation and bumps in the DJ booth to their favorite “Golden Girls” episodes. Of course, their favorite topic of conversation is their filthy sexcapades with curious muscle jocks.
Now, for the first time, Adam Joseph sets his rant to musical chant with the fagtastically brilliant, comedic ditty, “Faggoty Attention.” What makes Joseph a standout among out artists is that he is not only funny, he’s a musical genius. The song is really good — and the video is better. The song’s hook, “We’ll go back to Brooklyn, get it cookin, doncha worry no one’s lookin’” does what every good hook should do. It hooks you! With great gay anthems like this, we’ll all soon be hooked on Adam Joseph.
“MOVE: Atlantis Dance 2008” — Mixed by Manny Lehman (Silver Label) Atlantis is the largest gay and lesbian tour operator in the world, hosting 20,000 guests annually on all-gay cruises and resorts. Manny Lehman is the musical chameleon whose abundant innate gifts, coupled with a renowned stamina, have helped him fashion one of the most prolific and enduring careers on the global party circuit.
The one thing both know how to do is offer an unforgettable experience. And now they’ve united with the first in a series of new Atlantis-branded remix albums. The double-disc album marks a departure from Lehman’s trademark sound of aggressive vocals, pulsating drums and hard tribal beats.
Still, there is no shortage of diva power. Kristine W, Ultra Nate and Inaya Day are all prominently featured, along with Lehman’s unreleased version of Taylor Dayne’s “I’m Not Featuring You.” Ending an Atlantis cruise is never fun, but now at least gay travelers have a convenient way to take the adventure and memories home with them.
“Total Dance 2008” — Mixed by DJ Skribble (Thrive Records) Former MTV icon DJ Skribble presents a mix album that is sure to be hit with gays who can’t get enough of Fergie, Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera. They’re all here, with hard-to-find dance mixes of “Glamorous,” “Never Again” and more.
Two particular highlights are a previously unreleased remix of Nelly Furtado’s dancefloor hit “Promiscuous” (featuring Timbaland) and the surging Lenny B club remix of Fall Out Boy’s “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs.” Skribble proves he still knows what the kids want to hear; and his celeb connections allow him the rare ability to actually compile our favorite club hits on one CD. |
