Susan Burgess — Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem. Burgess will become the president of the N.C. League of Municipalities in October 2007, during the League’s 100th anniversary year. She serves on the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities, is chairperson of the National Democratic Municipal Officials Conference and a member of the executive committee of the Democratic National Committee.
Robbi Cohn
Robbi Cohn — The North Carolina trans-activist convinced the DMV to re-evaluate its policy, making it possible for trans individuals to obtain the appropriate gender identification on driver’s licenses. Cohn is a member of the HRC Carolinas Steering Committee, the Triad Business and Professional Guild and national trans equality groups NCTE and NTAC.
Ahmad Daniels
Ahmad Daniels — Daniels is a professional presenter and facilitator with over 20 years experience in community outreach programs, diversity training and African-American history. He is the founder of Creative Interchange, an organization created to encourage and facilitate non-blaming experiential workshops for persons of different ethnic groups. Daniels is a longtime straight ally.

Elke Kennedy
Elke Kennedy — The mother of slain gay man Sean Kennedy, who was killed during a homophobic attack outside of a Greenville, S.C., bar in May, will share her experiences. Since her son’s death, she has been working for passage of LGBT inclusive hate crime legislation through the organization she has established, Sean’s Last Wish. Kennedy has become a powerful proponent of LGBT rights, raising money, awareness and concern. (See story in this section for more information.)
