Happy holidays, y’all. I feel like I was just doing this and actually I was about a month ago. We come to celebrate drag pageantry and all the backstage drama and trauma that goes on, too. You know how the queens do!
I just heard about a fabulous fundraiser that was held in Atlanta to benefit Childkind (for terminally ill children) at the Red Chair. Mr. Continental, Simba Hall, was in it and he told me all about it. The show included Victoria LePaige, Desiree DeMornay, Maya Douglas, Tommie Ross, Tony Desario, Antonio Edwards, Tasha Long and Cezanne. Bitter I missed that one — damn, but Mother was just flying in from NYC where I spent my 40th birthday. Not too bad for an old bytch, huh?
I only know about prelims to the U.S.ofA. pageants…these other pageantry websites need to get with it; I need my cheat sheets! LOL Anyway, our pic this time is of a former Miss U.S.ofA. and everything else — Miss Erica Andrews, who is the reigning National EOY, and she’s fierce, baby. Okay, back to business — congrats are in order for LaWanda Jackson who just won Miss Oklahoma with runner-up Alexis Nicole Whitney; Shannon DuPree who won Wisconsin; Melissa Monet who won Iowa with RU Evian Cass; and Monica West who recently won Miss Wisconsin Classic.
The dates for Alyson Thomas’ Miss Universal Icon have been set. It will be in Miami at the Mansion, May 14 and 15. Alyson is not charging franchise fees for the first year, but there have been some prelims so far. A contestant can compete without a prelim for $150. Plus-size girls will compete alongside their smaller counterparts, but promoters can crown At-Large if they like. The Mr. contest will be held next November in the same location. Prelim winners so far include Gina D’Angelo, Miss Southern Icon; Tamia West, Miss South Miami and her RU Tangela Armani; Lola Lush, Miss Ft. Lauderdale At Large and her RU India Braxton; Vegas Dion, Miss Ft. Lauderdale; and Michael, Mr. Ft. Lauderdale with RU Jose Vega.
I can tell you Luscious, our Miss Gay America, was at Scorpio recently. They say she turned the party completely out. So glad my neicey is having a blast with her first national title.
Everything else I have is local, which is a good thing. The second Miss Ivan’s pageant was recently held in Marion and Chyna of Asheville won. There was a tie for second going to Mya Simone and Cierra Nichole and fourth was Ashante Moore. I just heard from my good sista Leslie Lain from Myrtle Beach. She tells me Miss Time Out was a huge success and that Scarlett Dailey was fantastic giving it up. Breyannah Allure won and her RU was a new girl on the scene by the name of Suzy Daisy, a WV transplant. It’s all about a big girl who can paint and move, right? I love it! I went up and judged Miss Club Odyssey in Winston several weeks ago,and had a blast. I saw Miss Judy. She’s still making the big Texas-sized rhinestones. You can check out her site at www.dragstones.com, ok? It was so good seeing Arabia (a former), DJ Bonet (pageant coordinator), Dorae (who was giving it up), Uniquea (lovely boy queen who can paint the house down!), Ebbony Addams (gorgeous gown) and Dy’mond Cartier, who also performed. The winner was Ariel Nicole Knight-Addams. She is a lovely queen who was beat out of her mind and had some spun hair on her head, thanks to Big Shirli. Then there was Jessica Jade, our Miss NC U.S.ofA., who performed and judged and was exquisite. It was my first time being around her. I must say, I’m now a huge fan. I always knew she could move, but from make-up to hair and stage presence and moves, she is a top-notch queen! I’m thankful for the opportunity to get to see her in a mode other than that of competition.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, y’all! |
