Howdy, folks — and welcome back. Oh, my, the tea we’ll pour this time includes a national contest done, another that might as well be and everything in-between.
Congrats are in order for Mikaila Kay of Arizona, your new Miss Gay America, and her court — 1st RU Layla LaRue, 2nd RU Victoria DePaula, 3rd RU Miss NC Coti Collins and 4th RU Chatel Reshae. Other finalists included Victoria Parker, Coco Montrese, China Collins, Melody Michaels and Chelsea DeLorean DeVine.
I did not attend the pageant this year, but I’m told the outcome was a complete surprise, as it normally is at Miss Gay America. How a contestant would go from 49th place one year to winning the next is beyond me. But I will say this: Mikaila did not judge herself, so let’s wish her the very best. It’s gonna be a hard enough year as it is.
Another pageant that has been going on just as long as MGA is the Female Impersonator’s Miss Florida. This year, they held the At-Large contest at the same time.
I do have wonderful news — former Miss, Tiffany Andretta Arieagus, made a comeback although she is semi-retired from the stage. For the At-Large contest, T.P. Lords is your newest, and her RUs were Wanda (aka Sallie Mae), Misty Eyez and the lovely India Braxton. T.P. won talent and and swimsuit, Wanda won gown and interview and India got Miss Congeniality. For the original contest, (I hate saying skinny or small girls!), a shapely Victoria Michaels came out victorious. Her RUs included Vegas Dion (who won gown), Taylor St. James (who won talent and swimsuit), Alyssa Cartier (Most Beautiful) and Deja. Victoria also won best production. Another Victoria by the last name of Sky won congeniality.
Did you see former Miss Continental Candis Cayne on “The View” recently? She was on there discussing her role on “Dirty Sexy Money” as a mainstream transgender character, of course, and she looked lovely. Rumor is David Letterman will have her on next.
Locally, we have a new Miss Metro NC U.S.ofA., Raven Wood, with RU Malaysia Black, and a new Miss Warehouse, Fuschia Rage, with RU Sandra Lopez. On the same night, Mr. Warehouse was held. Hyden Wood won with RU Taylor Addams. It seems the Woodshed recently had a camp pageant called Miss Woodshed (what else?) and a performer known as Miss Pebbles won as Sheneeda Rock. My hat is off to her as we enjoy all types of drag here at the Drag Rag!
The talented and lovely Angelique Ali recently won Miss Tri-State All Star pageant in Pennsylvania. Her RUs were Victoria Parker and Jareje Rashad. Miss Sin City U.S.ofA. at Large is Sache Cartier with RU Cassandra Gaye Preston. Our new Miss NC U.S.ofA. at Large is CoCo Couture and RU was Jazmun Tomas. On-hand was our lovely national title-holder Kathryn York and former Misses NC Paisley Parque and Roxxy Hart, was incognito in the audience. Our Miss NC U.S.ofA. Arabia Knight-Addams emceed and hosted. I’m told Jessica Raye will be travelling around representing Miss SC U.S.ofA. to help new promoter Teresa of Night Owls build the system up and promote the pageant.
Miss Greenville (SC) was recently held at the Castle and Cierra Nichole of Charlotte won. Her RU was Gia Blake. Also, another Miss Hide-A-Way was just held. Roxie Seymour Cox won. Her RU was Emery Starr.Another prelim to Miss NC U.S.ofA. is Miss Fayetteville, which Alexis Cartier won, with RU Monique Chanel. Mr. Gay USA FMI was held in Hickory at Club Cabaret. Winner was D-Roc, with 1st RU J.R. Stallings, 2nd RU, Cory Stone and 3rd RU, Sabastian.
My good Judy Miss Tajma Hall, our Miss Continental PLUS, just flew me up and treated me like pure royalty as she gave up her Dreamgirl prelim title from last year. I judged the contest and Tajee Iman won. Her RU was Lady Deception of Cleveland, OH. It was a good contest with six lovely, ready ladies. It was good to see Ginger Grant, Erica Christian, Victoria LePaige, Kitty Litter, Chevelle Brooks our Mr. and Miss Continental RaSean Montrese and Necole Luv Dupree and Jodie Santana. Tajma also shared with me winners of other prelims she’s been to recently. They are Miss Canada, which Mona won with RU Jasmine Finn; Miss Indiana, which Alexchandra won with RU Britney Taylor; and, finally, Miss Wisconsin, which Janice Colby won with RU Sadye Michaels. I cannot thank Tajma enough for the trip and the hospitality while I was there. She is aSouthern gyrl after all, you know?
I’ll close with a dedication to the Sex Kitten of the South, Tracy Morgan, who passed a few weeks ago doing what she loved best — performing at Scorpio. I knew the child for many years and loved her dearly. Not only was she an accomplished pageant queen, but a real entertainer as well. Please see our separate story on the front page about our former Miss NC America and Scorpio and Charlotte America and USA (before it became U.S.ofA.).
