Dy’mond Cartier, the new Miss NC U.S.of.A at Large from Fayetteville, N.C. |
Howdy, kids! Thanks for joining me once again as we cover results of recent contests in the world of drag-o-rama! Hope you enjoyed the special coverage in the most recent Q-Notes about Mr. Gay USA and Mr. and Miss Continental.
Domanique Chappelle, who gave up that title, is ready to compete again. She just won Miss TN U.S.ofA., and her RU was Myah Monroe of Atlanta. I guess she had such a good year, she figured she’d try another. Good idea. Other winners in the U.S.ofA. pageants include Kathryn York who just won TX at Large and Monica St. James who won Ohio at Large. That contest (for the big gals) is quickly approaching in Houston, TX. Hope some of you had a chance to meet and greet Alyssa Edwards, Miss Gay U.S.ofA., when she was in Raleigh and Greensboro for NC Pride. Maybe Chelsea Pearl, Miss U.S.ofA. Classic, will come back to the Tarheel State soon, too. I’m sure she’s applying make-up for the trip now. You know that queen loves some cosmetics!
Our pic this time is of our new Miss NC U.S.ofA. at Large, Dy’mond Cartier of Fayetteville, crowned by Paisley Parque. Her runners-up included Gabrielle Berlyn, Sybil Ann Storm and Cierra Nichole.
I failed to mention in the last Rag that a former Miss NC at Large, Roxxy Hart of Asheville, recently won Miss NC Showgirl at Scandal’s in the gorgeous NC mountains. I recently saw Miss Roxxy at Scorpio in the show with sisters Anjelica Dante and CoCo Couture. Y’all should come down more often, ladies!
In other pageantry systems, I can report that it’s almost time for Miss Gay America. I have the best feeling that the winner will have some NC ties. Then again, one never knows. Join me in wishing Coti Collins, Victoria Parker and Luscious the best of luck, along with our newly crowned Miss NC Miss D. Meaner and her alternate Ginger Grant of Greenville (who, yes, is a former Miss NC under different owners). Other recent qualifiers include Anastacia Davenport, Miss Mid-West with alternate Dieta Pepsi, and Ashley Kruiz, the newest Miss Alabama. How fabulous! Oh! Also, Victoria West, the Texas-sized Barbie Doll, just won Miss TX America, with RU Leyla O’Hara.
Locally, we’ve had some contests in different cities around, like Miss Greensboro FFI, which Dana St. James won (all categories) with RU’s Mo’Nique Chanel and Tia Chanella, and Miss Tri-Cities FFI, which my girl Malaysia Black won, with alternate Alexa and Miss Newton-Conover FFI, which Veronica Steele won with 1st runner up McKenzie Taylor.
I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome a diva to the Carolinas all the way from the Sunshine State of Florida — a former Female Impersonator’s Miss Florida, Stephanie Shippae, who’s making her home close to Columbia, S.C., these days. Stephanie is the tall, ebony goddess known for her stage presence, her fabulous Donna Summer impersonation and excellent emceeing skills, not to mention an appearance on Jerry Springer (and probably other talk shows) years ago. We are honored and privileged to have her in the area, and I know my good sisters Dorae Saunders and Miss Luscious in Columbia are gonna steer her in the way of some hot bookings all around the area. Be prepared for a treat.
In closing, I dedicate this column to Asya Alexander, a former Miss America, who passed away recently. Surely you remember her Sweet Georgia Brown talent at Miss Gay America. She is already missed.
