The new Mr. Continental RaSean Montrese, Miss Contenintal PLUS Tajma Hall, the new Miss Continental Necole Luv Dupree and Miss Continental Elite Danielle Hunter. |
Hello kiddies…thanks for coming back! So, let’s get right to it, because there’s lots of drag pageantry to discuss.
My yearly pilgrimage to Miss Continental is done. And, was it ever a bloodbath. This year was probably the best competition since the late ’90s. It was hard to even make it into finals.
Let me begin by saying the weekend started off with the obligatory visit to the Baton — and although the shows are always lovely with fabulous numbers, lovely girls, exquisite clothing and the usual attitude-y numbers from one of my all-time favorites Chilli Pepper — I must say this time the show was stolen by Monica Munro and daughter, Sasha Colby. That Sasha worked it on out, hunny! She was sweating by the end of that Beyonce number. Good work, girlfriend. And my sister Tajma Hall, the new Miss PLUS, emceed and did a wonderful job, but that girl can talk anyway.
That same evening, RaSean Montrese, a former Mr. EOY, became the newest Mr. Continental. Then on Monday night — have mercy — the battle began. Necole Luv Dupree of Atlanta came out victorious. Her runners-up were Armani and Alexis Gabrielle Sherrington, followed by Miss SC Lorna Vando and Jasmine International. It’s all about two Puerto Rican mamas in the Top 5, baby. Other finalists included Mokha Montrese, Jodie Santana, former NC girl Melania Cortez, Miss NC Tamisha Iman, Tulsi and Chantel DeMarco. I was so pleased to see that my predictions, after preliminaries, of Chantel and Melania making finals came true. Work it out, new girls.
Also, congrats go to Carmella Marcella Garcia, Michelle Dupree, Ginger Grant, Tasha Long and Tommie Ross on their service awards to the pageant given out at the beginning of the evening.
In other national contest news, a huge congrats goes out to Coti Collins of Raleigh who recently won Miss NC America. Her RU was Nicolette Starr. Other entertainers qualifying to compete at Miss Gay America in October in Memphis include the newest Miss Southern Elegance, Layla LaRue; Miss Iowa Chanel Cavalier; and Miss TX, Chanel LaMasters with RU Amber Stevens. This should be a good contest as well. Plus, our girl, Luscious, will be giving it up.

One more prelim for Asia O’Hara, our Miss Gay U.S.ofA.: Miss TN, which Regine Phillips won. Same family, different dimensions — two more prelims for U.S.ofA. at Large — Kathryn York presided over Arkansas, which Miranda Meridian won, and IL, which Mahogany Knight won.
Everything else is local, like the results from Mr. and Miss Triad Pride, which Paisley Parque and Tucker Wood won, each winning all of the categories at Warehouse 29. Congrats to Malaysia Black who won Miss International Rose City in Thomasville, Ga. Jessica Jade, our former Miss NC U.S.ofA., (and on her way to Miss Gay America also) just won all categories at Miss Greensboro FFI and will go on to compete at Miss NC FFI in Hickory this fall. Her RU was Fayetteville’s Monique Chanel.
In closing, I wanted to tell you about an old-school girl’s show I saw recently in Gastonia at Night Owls — on my first trip there. Petite de Jonville came up from Augusta. Mother of the House, Kasey King, was there, along with ole Jessica Rae from Myrtle Beach. Damn, it was like old times. Too bad Farrah MacRae had just been there. The only one missing, in my humble opinion, was Kelly Raye. Wish that gal would get closer back this way sometime, but it seems only Warehouse 29 in Greensboro gets the honor and privilege. Seems like it’s high time to make a trip to Guilford County. |
