Summer, hot pageants and more
Summer greetings and all that jazz, kiddies. The pageantry seems as hot as the weather here lately. Like my old high school girlfriend Tajma Hall once said on the campus of the University of North Carolina-Charlotte (her alma mater), “Oooh, there’s just so many pretty girls here, let’s have a pageant!”

And with Tajma and her new home of Chicago on the mind, I’m so excited to bring up that tickets for this year’s fall extravaganza, Miss Continental, go on sale July 20. I predict another sell-out within hours. It’s gonna be hot, baby, with contestants like the newest Miss First Lady DC Jasmine International, Miss Blues City (former Charlottean) Jordan Kennedy, Miss Chicago Victoria LePaige, Miss Washington DC Ginger Glamore, Miss DC Latina Shiquitta Leigh, Miss Oklahoma Kandy Cayne, Miss TX Janet Andrews (Miss Erica’s daughter), Miss Windy City Krystal and Miss Wisconsin Jackie Christine.

I’m sure you’ve seen the ads or heard about the new pageant that Alyson Thomas will be having before the end of the year — Miss Universal Icon FI, with a staggering prize package for the winner’s year of $21,000! I can only imagine those who will do it and what they will bring to the table. Keep a look out for details as to location and the exact time here in Q-Notes!

I spoke with one of our most famous (and favorite) trans-goddess entertainers, Tamalah Taylor, the other day. She has just done a remix of the old “Love Potion Number 9” and did a video for it. She’s also out flying around promoting the movie “Trantasia” she is in that just played at San Francisco’s Frameline 30. It will also be featured at Outfest in L.A. on July 13. There is a reality show in the works that Tam is considering and afterwards a stage show will follow that she definitely wants to take part in. You know her — she loves a stage. (Must be the topless dancer in her!)

In other news, congrats are due to a former Miss Gay U.S.ofA. Raquel Lord on winning the Universal Showqueen contest in Hawaii last month. and also to Malaysia Black who just won Miss Black Diamond down in Baton Rouge, LA, with Damoni Dickerson winning the Mr. title. Congrats also go to the new Miss Smoky Mountain America, Symphony Alexander and her first runner-up Mercedes Alexander and Miss Northwest America Cha Cha Chalez. A little closer to home, we have LaWanda Jackson being crowned the newest Miss Legends with RU Arabia Knight-Addams and Nellie Bottoms winning Miss Firecracker down at the Great American Mining Company in Greenvegas, NC, with RU Jessica Blackwell. We have a new Miss NC United States, Scarlett Dailey, with RU’s Raven Wood and Nevaeh Simone. And on the same night, Jerry Trollinger won the Mr. with RU Skylar Starr. Finally, we’ll finish with a contest with some interesting results. Melania Cortez was crowned the most recent Miss Atlanta and then was informed the next day her first RU, Lisha Paris, actually won. The following week, they did a transfer of the crown during a Stars of the Century show and I hear both divas were decked out in their finest, and made money galore. What a nice ending to a confusing start.

See y’all at a pageant somewhere, sometime soon, I’m sure!
