Pageants here, there and everywhere

Asia O’Hara of Texas, the newest Miss Gay U.S.ofA.
Well, kids, here we are again for another drag “killing” (as they say in the show business) referring to something that is trifling or takes too long or involves way too much drama. But, there will be no drama from me.

Enjoy the photos this time of Asia O’Hara, who’s only been Miss Gay U.S.ofA. for a little more than a month. I can’t wait ’til she comes to N.C. And if what I hear is true, her first stop may be in the Charlotte area since Night Owls’ manager Teresa has purchased the Miss NC U.S.ofA. franchise. Let’s hope she’ll do the U.S.ofA. At-Large too. I’d like to go out and see my girl Kathryn York, our reigning Miss.

Ooh, there’s so much goin on. We got pageants here and there and everywhere — like Continental prelims.

Just as Alyssa Edwards gave up Miss U.S.ofA. — here she is winning Miss Texas Continental and her runner-up was Sasha Andrews, followed by Nikki Bonet. Then another former Miss U.S.ofA., Alexis Gabrielle Sherrington, won River City. Jasmine International won Miss Virginia Icon with RU [and former EOY] Necole Luv DuPree (who was 1st RU at the national last year, of course). Add Jordan Kennedy to the mix, who won the very prestigious title of Miss Missouri with RU Mokha Montrese, and we have quite a pageant to go see in early September, no?

Some of you may be familiar with the title of Miss Models Inc. Admittedly, I was not, but when you have a diva like Yosmein Campbell Starr who wins your contest, it makes people sit up and take notice — like myself! Congrats to her and her promoters.

The newest Miss Universal Show Queen, based in gorgeous Honolulu, is Maddalyn Ashton, with RU’s Yuni Carey from L.A., Hawaii’s Jerrine Jeffries and Seiko, also from Hawaii.
Speaking of Hawaiians, that breathtaking Candis Cayne is at it again — she landed a part in an ABC pilot series called “Dirty Sexy Money,” and she’ll play Carmelita, who gets to hop in the sack with William Baldwin. Wow! Go on, girl.

Our Miss Gay America, Luscious, was just in Gastonia at Night Owls performing before getting on another airplane to head out to one more prelim. Her most recent ones include Miss Mississippi, which Victoria Valentine won, and Miss Tri-States, which Symphony
Love Alexander won with RU Regina Aignier (one of St. Louis’ finest) and Miss Gay Smoky Mountain America, which our former Miss NC U.S.ofA., Jessica Jade, won. Hooray.

On the local scene, we have Ivory Winters winning Miss Emerald City, a prelim to Miss NC America, with RU Mykayls Ray; Chicago’s Sasha Valentino won the 12th Annual Miss Queen City (I heard that was an event-filled night.) with RU Janasia McCray and for the gentlemen — the new Mr. Queen City is Damian Kelly with RU Tariq Luv Dupree. The first Miss Sex Kitten contest was recently held at Warehouse 29 in Greensboro and Raven Wood won, with RU’s Ivory Chanel and Anjelica Dust. Destiny Storm was voted sexiest contestant. Also, Jewell Holiday is the new Miss Cosmopolitan NC FFI with RU Brooke Devine.

I recently had the pleasure to go out and see a show at Colours, the gay night at Skandalo’s here in Charlotte, and saw house favorites like Miss Pilie, Paula Andrea, Geraldine Kennedy, Shayla Queen, and a newcomer by the name of Ashley Minnelli. Thanks to show director Jorge, I was given backstage access and got to visit with the chicas in the show and met a gorgeous transplant to this area by way of Atlanta — Miss Nicole Sanchez of Houston, TX. Nikki is a former Miss Club Energy and was a finalist at Miss TX U.S.ofA. a few years ago. She had accompanied a girlfriend of hers, Marilyn, to be in the show. Marilyn was in Las Vegas and now resides in San Diego. Good show, girls.

Congrats are also in order for Desiree DeMornay, who just relinquished her title of Continental PLUS in April. She has recently won Miss Duval Plus and Miss Sweetheart International Plus in the last 2 months.
