Oh, kids, welcome back to my little monthly spot here where we give the pageant queens (and sometimes kings) their dues. It’s a busy time of year with Miss PLUS and Elite having just taken place, then Miss Universal Icon and Miss U.S.ofA. coming up.
Why not let’s start with some local stuff this time. A big congrats goes out to Sasha Leigh Chambers who just won Miss NC FFI at Large in Hickory only a few months after giving up what some would call the skinny or little girl title. Eat up, gal, I say. Sasha won every category. Seems like the 828 area code has been good for Sasha lately, huh, after her win at O’Henry’s just a few weeks before that. The new Miss Gay Roanoke, held at the Park, is Connie Williams. The new Miss Club Spektrum is Mo’Nique Chanel with RU Arissa Knight Addams. The newest Miss Club Scandals is CoCo Couture, with RUs Celeste Starr and my baby sister Vivica Dupree (whom I never call). Oops!
Since the next big national contest to take place will be Miss Gay U.S.ofA. at the end of this month, it’s only fitting that I mention these girls who will be there competing as well: Miss Arizona Mikayla Kay (whom I heard was fierce) and runner-up Barbara Seville; Miss Alabama Catalina; Miss California Justice Paige Counce; Miss East Coast (held in Columbia, S.C. at PT’s Cabaret) Summer Knight, with RU Elaine Natasha Davis; Miss Florida Crystal Chambers; Miss Louisiana Sy’ria Synclaire; Miss Minnesota Geneva Richards; Miss Midwest Kara Belle Collins; and Miss South Peachus Vancarteya. Hats off to our girl, Miss N.C. Arabia Knight Addams, and her RU Malaysia Black as they venture off to represent the Tarheel State, and to one of the best Miss Gay U.S.ofA.’s ever — Alyssa Edwards. We’ve not yet heard the last of this talent powerhouse. I still can’t get over her talent from last year that I finally saw on YouTube.com. One of the best talents I have ever seen after being involved in this business for 18 years!
In other systems, we have Jodie Santana winning Miss Shining Star Continental with RU Aurora Sexton and Michelle Fighter taking Miss IL Continental. On the Miss America scene, I failed to mention that the new girl on the block who everyone seems to be talking about, Mikayla Kay, also got 1st RU to Alina Maletti at Miss Western States. Akasha Cassadine won Miss Maryland in Baltimore at the Hippo!
I know you remember last year about this time when I mentioned the winners of Miss TX FFI and At-Large. Well, this year, the show alone is worth the plane ticket. It features a line-up that rivals any national contest and is even better than some!
Check it out: the pageant will take place in Dallas on July 15 at the Round-Up Saloon and then the next night there will be a VIP party and a show that will be talked about for months afterwards. In the showcase we have Whitney Paige, Miss Texas FFI at Large 2006; Alyssa Edwards, Miss Texas FFI and Miss U.S.ofA. 2007; the new Miss TX FFI and At-Large; Victoria LePaige, Miss Continental; Luscious, Miss Gay America; the new Miss U.S.ofA.; Sweet Savage, Miss TX FFI Emeritus; Erica Andrews, Miss EOY 2007 and International Queen; Tommie Ross, Miss Sweetheart International 2007; Tasha Long, Miss EOY 2006; Kathryn York, Miss U.S.ofA. at Large; Danielle Hunter, Miss Continental Elite; and Tajma Hall, Miss Continental PLUS! Wow!
In closing, as I always do, I dedicate the column to a fine entertainer from Fayetteville, N.C., by the name of Alicia Harris who passed at the end of April. She held many titles and was 1st RU to Miss NC America Jennifer St. James. She’d always add that special something to a talent that made it her own that we called “the Alicia touch.” She certainly will be missed. |
