Hi
folks. Here we are once more to talk about the latest in drag pageantry
news and my old ass will be your hostess with the mostest. As I begin,
I wanted to make a correction from last time — the new Miss Pantheon
down in Charleston is actually named Cashmere Starr, ok? Sorry for the
misinformation, sis.
Where to begin? Maybe with the latest big contest news that Miss Classique
was just held in Hickory at Club Cabaret. Ashley Adams is the new Miss
and her King is Marlowe Rainbow. Congrats to them both.
I was in Asheville a few weeks ago to judge the Miss Shamrock pageant at
O’Henry’s. It was great to be back in the gorgeous N.C. mountains,
as I never get up that way. Promoter Natalie Smalls and the girl giving
up her crown, the body beautiful Adara McDaniels, had me up and a good
time was had by all. Adara crowned Tamalah Taylor and her first runner-up
was Charlotte’s Cierra Nichole. We were treated to entertainment
by Adara, Natalie, LuAnne Landreth and Tracy Morgan. The following night,
I popped into Scandal’s for a little while and bumped into Celeste
Starr (who was hosting a little trivia game), Vivica Dupree and saw an
incognito Anjelica Dante and show director T.J. (whom we used to love as
Aurora Borealis). I also got the chance to meet one of the new owners,
Ross, who is quite the baby doll.
Did anyone get a chance to see my good friend Hot Chocolate a few weeks
back on TLC’s Beyond the Bull? That thing is everywhere (she hates
that term, also — sorry!), but she was also on Jay Leno doing a Paula
Abdul tribute not too long ago and even met Simon Cowell. More recently,
she got the chance to meet two of the Fab 5 — Jai Rodriguez and Thom
Filicia.
Imagine the time I had recently when I did lunch with Macy Alexander and
that crazy Leslie Lain who was here from the beach visiting Macy and Angel
Austin. Lord, that poor waiter will never be the same. Thanks, ladies — it
was great.
In other pageantry news, I wanted to congratulate Victoria Parker on winning
Miss Mid-America; her RU’s were China Collins and Sasha Chambers.
The Pig is on her way back after a very successful showing last fall as
2nd RU to Nicole DuBois. Good luck, girlfriend, as you prepare to go back.
When pigs fly.
By the time you read the next Rag, we’ll have a new Miss Continental
Elite and PLUS and the only othergirlie I know who has qualified for either
would be Desiree DeMornay who won Miss Ultimate PLUS. I am also told one
of my all-time favorites and good sisters, Maya “Show Me the Money” Douglas
will be representing Texas Elite. Get ready. Between her and Vickie Vincent
for Elite and then Desiree, Nina Cherry and Mokha Montrese for PLUS, it’s
gonna be a lovely Easter weekend in Chicago.
All other tidbits are that of the U.S.ofA. family — like Miss North
Classic, which Nancy Taylor won, and Florida Classic, with Lady Pearl taking
the crown. Then with prelims to Miss Texas, we have Odysea Raven who won
San Antonio with RU Sasha Andrews and Janet Andrews who won Miss Houston
with RU Alfreda Payne. On that same night, they had Mr. Houston, so you
know the drill — we mention it here — the winner was Rico Cavalli
and his alternate was Xavier. The most recent prelim to Miss At Large was
Sunshine States, which Star Love won, with RU Jocelyn Summers. Prelims
to the big round-up (Miss Gay U.S.ofA.) in May in Dallas include Miss Arkansas
Mya Mokka Iman, Miss Northern Star Roxy Marquis, Miss Arizona Chane Jordan
and Miss New Jersey Empress Vizcaya. This will be some pageant this year.
Finally, in the last Drag Rag Candi Stratton was shown in a photo as the
new Miss N.C. U.S.ofA. at Large instead of Paisley Parque. Candi Stratton
was actually crowned Miss Gay Universe.
