Windy City and everything in between
|Tajma Hall, new Miss Continental PLUS
Wooh, kids, here I am, back from the Windy City where I took in two fabulous Continental pageants. And I guess you could say I’m very pleased with both results. A friend of many years won one and a dear friend of decades won the other.

Big congrats go out to former N.C. gal Tajma Kirsten Hall on dusting her competition and winning the title of Miss Continental PLUS. I’m told she won by the biggest margin in Continental history. If you were there, you can understand how. Girlfriend served the children a choreographed “Color Purple” talent and served lovely clothes, hair and mug all weekend long, thanks to her tailor J.D Martin of Dallas and her assistant Ashley “Red” Iman of Houston. They made for a sick-a-ning combination.

Tajma’s runners-up included Amelia Black, Briana Nicole Cartier, Trixxie DeLuxe and Kitty Litter. Other PLUS finalists included Tamera Chevalier, Alayna Marquez, Miss NC Sasha Sommers, Ashley Nicole Kelly, Ivy White, Mercedes and Keke Velasquez-Lord.

Hats off to all the formers who showed up including Ginger Grant, Carmella Marcella Garcia, Erica Christian, Amaya, Victoria Parker, Angelica Sanchez, Chevelle Brooks and the gorgeous Terry Williams.

The very next night, Danielle Hunter, a former Miss NC Continental and Miss Continental, won the Elite pageant. She also rendered a fantastic talent and pretty clothes (of course, she has a wardrobe that is rarely matched!).

Her RUs included Ginger Manchester, Angel Sheridan, Franchesque Richards and Tiffany Ross. Other finalists included Miss SC Petite de Jonville, LaWanda Jackson and Diva.
A big hand goes out to Maya Douglas who was relinquishing her title. She was as beautiful and classy as always.

A few weeks before was another national contest, but so much closer to home — Mr. and Miss Classique in Hickory.

The new Mr. is Greg Garrison. His RUs were Xavier Cole, Sebastian Armonte, Maestro Debris Couture and Tony Lionheart. Other finalists included Keith Kennard, Rob Austin and Ty Nolan.
The new Miss Classique is former Miss NC U.S.ofA., Farrah McCray. Her RUs were Duwanna Moore, LaToya Bacall, Shana Nicole and Chanel Exotique. Other finalists included Vicki Valentino, Sashay Lorez, Victoria Victors, B.J. Stephens and Mable Kane.

It was so good to get back to Club Cabaret and see some old friends, like Mr. Buddy Brendle, Linwood Dean, Glenn Moore, ole Jeffro’ (artist formerly known as Nancy Newton), Joanne Marie Gentry, former Miss NCA Devida, former Miss NCA Kristen Collins and Miss Night Owls, Brooke Devine, who looked fantastic. You know, I just love a pageant!

I also ran into Natalie Smalls of Natalie Productions. I had been in Asheville the weekend before to judge her Miss Shamrock contest. Tamalah Taylor was on hand to relinquish her title, and crowned Sasha Leigh Chambers who swept every category. Sasha’s RUs were Vida Precious Belle and Heaven Leigh Divine.

Also there was former Miss, Adara. I just love getting up to the beautfiul N.C. mountains.
Other contests that I should mention at this time are two more prelims to Miss Gay America — Miss Delaware, which our current Miss NC, Miss D. Meaner, won and Miss Western States, won by Alina Maletti.

Miss Mid-West, which Chyna Collins won, included RU Kristen Collins.

The winner of the first prelim to Miss NC America, Miss Coastal Plains, was Vontresse DuQuette, with RU Constance DeMarlo.

Did you hear about the B-GLAD show at ECU recently? It featured Dorae Saunders, Melania Cortez, Kirby Kolby and Dana St. James, who also emceed. Sounds kinda fierce to me!
You may have seen one of my all-time favorite entertainers, Hot Chocolate, recently on “Access Hollywood” as she was auditioning for ABC’s upcoming “The Next Best Thing.” I say, give it to her!

In closing, I dedicate this column to two fine folks who have passed recently. Rosalyn Heights, the tallest queen ever put on a pair of pumps, who lived in Mobile, Ala., and was murdered in her own home by two teenaged hoodwinks who broke in on her. Jan Chamblee, Miss Greenville America 1979 and a partner for 25 years to a former Miss NC America, Jennifer Barrett, was a pageant adviser who coached and designed gowns for many “real girl” and drag pageant contestants. May they rest in peace.
