Jennifer St. James crowned Miss U.S. of A.
Howdy folks! And welcome back to my spot — where your crown is worth its weight in rhinestones and a title will get you some unsolicited publicity. So much has gone on since the last time we were together, we had best jump right in.

We’ll start with the most recent state-level pageant here, that of Miss N.C. U.S.ofA. Before I continue, I must mention the girls who qualified since last time — Miss Captital City Dy’mond Cartier; Miss Greenville Erica Foxx with runner-up Alexis Cartier; Miss Piedmont Raven Simone; and Miss Western N.C. Jessica Jade (who won all three categories). I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the contest — from Diamond’s opening with a lovely rendition of “Material Girl” by Madonna to Kelly Raye’s return to the stage. It’s about time, girl, damn. Congrats to former Miss N.C. America Jennifer St. James on winning and to her RU’s as well — Jessica Jade, Tanisha Cassadine, the large and lovely Roxxy Hart (with gowns and a laid face) and the dancing Raven Simone (who was giving much “mug” as well). Other Top 10 finalists included Dy’mond Cartier, Paisley Parque, a fishy Ericka Marx, the gorgeous Beverly Iman Johnson and Breyanna Allure. Best Non-Finalist was Erica Foxx. In addition to performances by formers like Versage, Amaya, Kelly Raye, Ebbony Addams, Jeff Reeves (the artist formerly known as Nancy Newton) and Dana St. James, the crowd was treated to numbers by Miss S.C. U.S.ofA. Malaysia Black, Miss N.C. U.S.ofA. at Large Mikaila Divine, Miss N.C. America Luscious and the newly crowned Miss N.C. FFI Mysha Paris. To end it all, what can I say about our Miss Gay U.S.ofA. Layla LaRue but wow. Flawless from minute one. But, I still can’t tell you how happy I was to see Kelly Raye back on the stage where she belongs. She says hello to everyone.

Other contests that have taken place in the area include Miss N.C. Black America which Sasha from Augusta won, with RU Imani Tate. I heard the reigning Miss Black America Tommie Ross was resplendent as usual at that contest. Congrats to Dy’mond Cartier on winning the Miss Greater Faytteville Entertainer of the Year contest at Spektrum with RU Imaje Deveraux. Also, congrats to Raven Wood on winning Miss Mardi Gras at Warehouse 29 recently. I’m happy to announce a new contest coming up in the beautiful N.C. mountains called the Land of the Sky pageant — they’ll have six preliminaries honoring the Western N.C. region, with the categories of talent, gown and on-stage and an At-Large contest to follow shortly. Another new contest would be the Sex Symbol Superstar taking place in Charlotte at Velocity Sept. 21-25, with an unbelievable prize package of ten thousand dollars. Applications will be accepted March 1 through June 1 and I’ll have more info the next time. Wow!

Now, onto prelims taking place for all the different national contests — like Miss Mid-America, a prelim to Miss Gay America, which the lovely and painted Nicole DuBois won with RU China Collins; Miss Ultimate Continental PLUS which Farra N. Hyte won; Trixie DeLuxe won Miss Tri-States Continental PLUS; the new Miss VA Icon Continental is Dominique Chappelle and Miss Heart of America Continental is Takiya Valentino. Miss Iowa U.S.ofA. is Vanessa Taylor. Miss Heartland U.S.ofA. is Ashlyn Tyler with RU Miami Richards. Winners to prelims for Miss U.S.ofA. Classic include Portia Van Buren who won Miss Indiana with RU Purrssia and the Legendary Misty Knight who just won Miss North.

In closing, check out the new website for that crazy-ass Lady Bunny of NYC (but born in NC, and yes, the son of a preacherman) at LadyBunny.net, ok? You tell her I sent ya, ok?
