Miss Gay America 2007, Luscious |
Well, kiddies, thanks once more for joining me here to chat about what I like best (other than a dark-skinned man with an accent) and that’s a pageant. I’ve rounded up tidbits from everywhere, so we’ll be all over the page with this one.
Our pic this time is of our reigning Miss Gay America, Luscious, who we all know and love here locally. From talent shows to being Miss Scorpio to being Miss NC America and, now, the Miss America, some of us go way back with this kid. It tickles me to see one of our own be blessed, recognized and validated for her hard work and determination. If you are a member on carriefairfield.com, read the interview with Luscious by drag aficionado Bob Taylor — it’s very revealing. Bob has also recently done profiles on the goddess Erica Andrews and another local queen we love, Coti Collins.
Maybe if you were at Miss Scorpio recently, you saw ole’ Lush do her thang. She judged and entertained — what a stage presence she has — such a natural. And used to be prom king? Hanh? By the way, our Miss Black U.S.ofA., Tenisha Cassadine, won Miss Scorpio and her RUs were Cierra Nichole and Amanda Blake. Congrats to Dorae Saunders on an incredible year and to the many formers who showed up, including LuAnne Landreth, Tia Douglas, Amber Rochelle, Elaine Davis, Tracy Morgan, Sasha Chambers and, yes, even Renee Rollins. Wow!
Since I’ve just gotten back from Greensboro for the final preliminary to Miss NC U.S.ofA., let’s talk about the last girls to qualify, like Sandra Lopez of Virginia Beach who won Miss Wilmington and her RU Taylor Made; Miss Greenville Jessica Blackwell and RU Mo’niq Chanel; and then the one I saw — Miss Central Carolina (Uncle Will’s pageant), which Malaysia Black won with runner-up honors and entitlements going to Olivia Vorhees Oyl, otherwise known as Olive. I am living for Olive’s full drag name! (And I’m so glad she finally got the red platform shoes back.) It was so good to be back at Warehouse 29 and see owner Kent, who is always so sweet, and my secret lover DJ Kimo and Jessica O’Brien, Paisley Parque and Mae. Where was Biggie? Probably painting the life out of some gyrl somewhere, I guess. The club had just hosted The Sweetheart of Warehouse 29. Angelica Dust won and her RU was Cherries Jubilee.

Drag diva Hot Chocolate recently appeared in Perez Hilton’s celebrity blog. |
Since Miss NC U.S.ofA. is coming up quickly (in fact, their final night is the same night as the Continental prelims in Charlotte at Scorpio — bitter!), I wanted to congratulate our girl, Jessica Jade, on a fabulous reign. She has had clothes, mug and cute hair, and that sister can move. Girl, keep it up — there are bigger things in store for you if you’ll only go after them. I really hate that I will miss our Miss U.S.ofA., Alyssa Edwards, when she is here, but duty calls back home. Make sure y’all give her some Tarheel love and tips, ok?
And while on the subject of Miss U.S.ofA., I heard about a fabulous prelim in Las Vegas. We’ll call it the Sin City weekend. They had the Mr. Sin City USA (not affiliated with U.S.ofA.) a night or so before and my main squeeze Eric Austin of El Paso won. His RU was NeAundre Bonet Dupree. Can you say orange swimsuit on Latino skin? Yum! Someone call 9-1-1! The winner of Miss Sin City U.S.ofA. was the 10 dancing toes of Kara Young (y’all remember her from the Miss Gay America days) and her RU Tasha Long. Sounds like a damned good contest to me. My old friend Shae Shae LaReese was there and told me it was like gay celebs on parade — Kristian Kline, Chevelle Brooks, Whitney Paige, Tommie Ross, Bubba McNeely, D’André, Dominique Chappelle, and Sasha Valentino. Oh, and my baby Hot Chocolate, who works there at Krave, was just with the Pussycat Dolls again having fun at a function, and she is all up in gossip queen Perez Hilton’s column after they met in Vegas.
In other very local news, the most recent prelim to Miss NC FFI was Miss Sweetheart and Victoria Victors won that, with Brooke and Chyna as her RUs. Most of you already know that Brooke is the new Miss Night Owls, a club that has started doing shows over in Gastonia. Some say it’s all about being in the right place at the right time, right?
Just before I go, I must ask — did you see one of my favorite former Miss Continentals Candis Cayne on “CSI:NY” recently? She played a “transistor sister” who was killed, so she (and her body) were on there the whole time. Keep those auditions up, babe! |
