Hey everyone, and Happy New Year! Hope you all found my year-end recap interesting enough. In my entry about Texas domination, I did fail to mention that the young lady who gave up the title of Miss Gay U.S.ofA. last May, Raquel Lord, also hails from Dallas, but has lived in Atlanta for years. Also the girl who just gave up Miss U.S.ofA. at Large, Kelexis Davenport, is a Dallas super-star who reigns supreme at the Rose Room at the Village Station. So much for my reminiscing correctly. Oops!

I can assure you, this go-round we will focus mainly on local contests, but there are a few national tidbits to chatter about first. Congrats are in order for Amaya who recently won her spot to go back to Miss Continental PLUS — she’s now Miss Missouri, an excellent prelim to win with fabulous promoters Joe and Howard. Amaya won interview, talent and on-stage question. Her runner-up was the gorgeous and shapely Coco Van Cartier of Las Vegas, Nev. That is one pretty Latina queen, baby! And sweet as peaches, too. Also, September Murphy (a blast from the past) recently won Miss Heart of America Continental PLUS. In another system, former Miss E.O.Y. Nina DeAngelo just won Miss Northern Star U.S.ofA. with RU Taylor Roberts. Wonder who had on the most cosmetics at that one? Both are known to love the make-up brush and we like that. It also makes me very happy to congratulate Malaysia Black of Charlotte on winning Miss S.C. U.S.ofA. recently with RU Candice Cordova. Everyone knows I’m a big fan of Laylay, so I certainly hope to be there in Dallas in May to scream for her — hard work and learning the business well is paying off for this queen! Before I continue, one thousand lashes with a wet noodle for not mentioning that our very own Paisley Parque got Best Non-Finalist at Miss U.S.ofA. at Large in December — I need to see that Kelly Osbourne talent, girl!

And the rest is all news about our local sisters winning contests, like Monica Lovett who recently captured the title of Miss Winter Wonderland FFI and Big Shirli Stevenz who just won Miss Zodiac up in West Virginny. Kandi Kane just won Miss Diva in Columbia, a Hunter’s Fashions production; her RU was Luscious. Amaya also just won Club Spektrum’s Winter Wonderland contest (not a prelim to a state-level pageant). The Lady Diamond has been bustouring the state as Miss NC U.S.ofA., representing her title at contests like Miss Greensboro, which Paisley Parque won with RU Beverly Iman Johnson; Miss Hickory, which Chynna won with RU Natasha Diamond; Miss Wilmington which Savannah Stevens won with RU Michelle Michaels and, finally, Miss Central Carolinas which the lovely songbird Breyanna Allure won (a former Miss Pennsylvania) with Jessica Jade as her runner-up. Another local contest to bring to your attention — DeAgera Sherrington was recently crowned Miss Club Myxx; her RU’s were Mysha Paris and Essence Iman Black.

In closing, I bid a farewell to a dear friend moving away to pursue other interests — Brittany Shane recently had her last show at Legend’s in Raleigh as she prepared to move to Indianapolis for a nice job making bank, baby. I wish you well, darling! You were lovely while it lasted and we salute your career back here in the Tarheel State!
